Born in Yeşilyurt in 1959. He attended Lefke İstiklal Primary School and Türk Maarif Koleji, and completed his higher education in Electrical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University and Eastern Mediterranean University.

He served for many years as an executive at Lefke Türk Sports Club and in numerous civil society organisations. A member of Lefke Municipal Council for eight years between 2006 and 2014, Aziz Kaya has also served on the board of trustees of the European University of Lefke and on the boards of the Lefke Co-operative Credit Company and the Lefke Kafizes Irrigation Co-operative.

Elected Mayor in 2014, Aziz Kaya was re-elected in 2018 and 2022 and continues in office for a third term. A fluent English speaker, he is married with two children.
