Also known as the Upper Mosque or the Minaret Mosque, the mosque was built during Ottoman rule on the remains of the Church of St George. Its exact date of construction is unknown.

The Pir Pasha Mosque of Lefke had been converted from a church into a mosque during the Arab raids. Cyprus was incorporated into Ottoman territory by the campaign of 1570–1571. Mehmet Bey, grandson of Pir Pasha, one of the viziers of Suleiman the Magnificent, also took part in that campaign. In the establishment of Turkish administration Mehmet Bey became governor of the Paphos sanjak, and Lefke was attached to it. On his visit to Lefke, Mehmet Bey saw this ruined mosque and rebuilt and restored this venerable building — whose lineage traces back to Abu Bakr — naming it Pir Pasha after his grandfather.

The Pir Pasha Mosque has a three-arched assembly area and a cylindrical architecture built of cut stone. Mehmet Bey, grandson of Pir Pasha, one of the viziers of Suleiman the Magnificent, took part in the Ottoman conquest of Cyprus in 1570–1571. In the establishment of the new administration Mehmet Bey became governor of the Paphos sanjak, and Lefke was attached to it. On his visit to Lefke, Mehmet Bey saw the remains of the old Church of St George and this ruined mosque, and rebuilt and restored this venerable building — whose lineage traces back to Abu Bakr — naming it Piri Pasha after his grandfather.
