The 8th Date Festival, organised this year in cooperation between the Lefke Tourism Association and the Municipality, will be held on Sunday 5 November.
According to a statement by the Lefke Tourism Association, the festival — held to promote dates, support producers and keep Cypriot culture alive — will begin at 10:00 with a procession.
At the festival, which will continue all day at the Lefke Bandabuliya (covered market), exhibitions will open under the names International Lefke Artists’ Meeting and Wall of Love, there will be a gathering of women producers from the Cittaslow districts of Seferihisar and Lefke, and date growers will give demonstrations of climbing date palms.
Alongside threading jasmine onto date fronds and making date preserve, the festival will feature folk dance performances and a young talents concert, as well as a guided promotional tour of Lefke.
The festival, held under the slogan “Cittaslow — Slow City Lefke Is Calling You”, will be opened by Mayor of Lefke Aziz Kaya, Lefke Tourism Association President Hasan Karlıtaş and the children of Lefke who are World Fitness Champions.
The Lefke Date Festival will close at 20:00 at the Lefke AKM with a Turkish classical music concert by the Lefke Culture and Arts Association conducted by İsmail Kaşot, following the final concert by Eril Cambaz.
